Add comfort and confidence — and value — by specifying foam that is certified.
Consumers want to know what is (and is not) inside their upholstered furniture. Whether or not you display the hangtag, specifying CertiPUR-US® approved foam answers important questions and provides you with a value-added marketing tool.
When your products contain certified foam, you can answer consumer questions about formaldehyde, VOCs, phthalates, heavy metals and PBDE flame retardants with confidence. What a valuable way to improve the comfort level of your upholstered furniture – in every sense of the word.
What products can be certified
Each CertiPUR-US® registration covers specific classes of polyether-based flexible polyurethane foam products that are typically used in upholstered furniture and bedding items. The categories are:
- Conventional polyether foam
- Conventional fire retardant polyether foam
- Super-soft conventional polyether foam
- High Resilience (HR) foam
- Viscoelastic foam
- Other foams may be considered on a case-by-case basis
About the certification process
- Basic mechanical performance – often used to predict how foam products can work and provide lasting service.
- Indoor emissions potential – while most items around us “off gas” a little, too much of certain emissions could be a concern for some people. CertiPUR-US®® sets strict emissions limits based on a consensus of international environmental programs.
- Content – CertiPUR-US® checks for things that shouldn’t be found in foam cushioning like lead, mercury and other heavy metals; formaldehyde; BPA, DEHP and four other phthalates; PBDE fire retardants, and risky ingredients that may create health concerns at high concentrations. (See complete CertiPUR-US® Guidelines for details [PDF].)
- Checks and double-checks – provide initial foam evaluations and spot checks later on CertiPUR-US® labeled products used in the field.
